The ugly truth.

August 27, 2010

I haven’t been doing very good lately. I have mentioned in previous posts how I either do either do exercise really well or I do eating really well… and I don’t do both well at the same time. Well, as you all know, I have been training for my triathlon. That means I’ve been eating crap. I was hovering between 228-231 and holding steady until we went to the beach last weekend. I came home from the beach weighing 236. This morning I was down to 233, but essentially we’re talking about a 6.5 pound gain from my lowest low of 226.4. I have just stopped caring about what I’m eating. I feel like I “deserve” it for training so hard. I feel like it’s a “reward” for exercising more than I have in months previous. This is where my relationship with food is clearly unhealthy.

I have been talking to Jared over the last two weeks or so about how I need to do something. Anything. I just have to get started again. I need to light my fire. So, today at work I contacted an HR rep about joining the city’s “Weight Watchers at Work” program. But here’s the thing… it costs money. A lot of money, actually. $40+ per month. That doesn’t seem like a big deal except that I’m on Dave Ramsey’s financial baby step plan and I’m on Step #2. I have a gazelle-like intensity focused on paying off my debt from unemployment. And a $160 commitment (it’s a 17 week plan) is money that could be going to my debt. And that keeps nagging at me. I have all the tools I need to do this on my own. Theoretically. But clearly I have stalled and I need something different this time around.

Now, this isn’t my first go-round with Weight Watchers. I joined for one month a little over a year ago. I signed up for the online program and quit pretty much immediately. The website was not laid out well and the information wasn’t organized. I thought the points were stupid because it was just calories, but dumbed down. Calorie King made so much more sense to me. But here’s the thing. Calorie King isn’t interactive. It doesn’t have meetings, support, and weigh-ins. So I’m keeping an open mind and giving WW a try again. And I’m committing the money as an investment into my health. I think Dave Ramsey would approve.

So that’s what’s coming up in my life on the health front. But on the blog front? That’s a whole other ball game. I’m bored with my blog. I don’t have the desire to write as often anymore. Of course, a lot of that has to do with being a lot busier than when I was unemployed, but my general excitement about it is gone. I seriously, seriously considered giving it up completely last week. But I’m not there yet. Instead, I’m going to expand! I started thinking about the blogs I enjoy reading and they’re all focused on the writer’s life. Not just weight loss or training updates, but their whole life! There is so much more to me than just my struggle with weight. Like I mentioned before, I’m on Dave Ramsey’s plan, which is full of challenges and issues and struggles and rewards all on its own. I’m also trying to bring a little more decorating “flavor” into our house on a very, very low budget! That means some yard sale-ing and re-purposing. Did I tell you I got a sewing machine for my birthday in July? There are so many things I can (and want) to write about!!!

So I hope you guys will stick with me through the changes. I’m excited and I’m looking forward to all the things the next few months will bring. Fall is my favorite season and I can already feel it approaching in the air. I will be changing around the structure of the site over the next few days as I find time, so I hope you’ll check back to see what’s up!
